Apple Fritters

IngredientsApple Fritters

  • 2 Granny Smith apples, peeled, cored, halved, and cut into ¼ inch pieces
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • ¼ cup apple cider
  • 2 large eggs lightly beaten
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 3 cups peanut or vegetable oil

For Glaze

  • 2 cups confectioners’ sugar
  • ¼ cup apple cider
  • ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg


For Fritters

  1. Spread apples in single layer on paper towel-lined baking dish and pat thoroughly dry with paper towels.
  2. Combine flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, cinnamon and nutmeg in large bowl.
  3. Whisk cider, eggs, and melted butter in medium bowl until combined. Stir apples into flour mixture until incorporated. Stir in cider mixture until combined.
  4. Set wire rack in rimmed baking sheet. Heat oil in Dutch oven over medium-high  heat to 350⁰.
  5. Using ½ cup measure and spoon, transfer 5 heaping portions of batter to oil.
  6. Using back of spoon press batter lightly to flatten. Fry fritters, adjusting burner if necessary to maintain oil temperature between 325⁰ and 350⁰, until deep golden brown 2 to 3 minutes per side.
  7. Transfer fritters to prepared wire rack.
  8. Return oil to 350⁰ degrees and repeat with remaining batter.
  9. Let fritters cool for 5 minutes.

For Glaze

  1. While fritters cool, whisk all ingredients in medium bowl until smooth.
  2. Top each fritter with 1 heaping tablespoon glaze.
  3. Let glaze set for 10 minutes before serving.
